Celebrate Brighton Pride Parade with FareShare Sussex

This Saturday 4th August we are for the first time joining in the Brighton Pride Parade! A celebration of LGBTQ rights and diversity. This year they are celebrating the 40th anniversary of the iconic Rainbow Flag with the theme ‘Colour My World’.

Originally commissioned by politician and activist Harvey Milk and devised by artist Gilbert Baker in San Francisco in 1978, the rainbow flag is a symbol of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT+) pride and LGBT+ social movements. The flag has no rules, no protocol that governs its display and is the community’s for the taking.

For 2018’s ‘Colour My World’, Pride are returning to the flag’s original eight colours of pink, red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, and violet representing, respectively: sexuality, life, healing, sun, nature, art, harmony, and spirit.

The eight colour Rainbow Flag reminds us that ours is a diverse community – composed of people with a variety of individual tastes of which we should all be proud.

This year each party joining the parade has selected a representative colour, with ours being Green ‘Nature’. This represents our love for planet earth, the communities that it supports and the food which it provides.

Just look out for our volunteer food heroes along the parade, celebrating the diversity of surplus food by wearing an array of foodie costumes whilst accompanied by our FareShare Sussex van. Come, join in the crowd, support us – wear green –  and prepare to be fabulous!

“Flamboyant, vibrant and colourful, the Brighton & Hove Pride Parade is a show-stopping spectacle not to be missed. The parade promises to take on a uniquely global – and eye-poppingly technicolour – hue, so be sure to find yourself a good spot on the packed pavements from which to watch as the spectacle goes by. On top of all the music, floats, bands, costumes and dancing – the parade also carries the message of love, unity, and support for the worldwide LGBTQ+ community that is at the heart of everything that Brighton & Hove Pride does.”
