On 12th July, FareShare Sussex welcomed Caroline Lucas, Green Party MP for Brighton Pavillion, to their warehouse in Moulsecoomb. The visit, her first in over five years, offered the opportunity for Caroline to meet the charity’s many volunteers, tour their facilities and be updated on FareShare’s most recent achievements.
Caroline said, “It was so inspiring to meet the people who make the amazing work of FareShare possible. The staff and volunteers come from many different backgrounds but work together with such passion and commitment to change lives across Sussex.”
Caroline added, “For me FareShare really is a beacon of hope, combining social and environmental justice not only ensuring surplus food doesn’t go to waste, but supporting vulnerable people and offering such an empowering workplace where everyone is valued for who they are.”
After meeting the team and having a tour around our warehouse, Caroline went out with volunteers in a FareShare van on a food delivery to Case Central, a community support centre in Hollingdean.
Development Manager Rachel Carless said “Through our network of charity members, FareShare are delivering food for thousands of Caroline’s constituents every week as well as providing volunteering opportunities to help people into employment. We were delighted to welcome Caroline to our warehouse, letting us showcase the hard work of our team tackling the social and environmental issues of poverty, unemployment and food waste.”
