How we did last year

Our impact report for 2019-20 has landed.

Last year, we distributed 675 tonnes of food to 141 charities and community groups, feeding over 12,000 people every week across 14 local authorities in Sussex and Surrey.

Thanks to our valued supporters, this is our most impactful year to date.

With our year running from April 1st to March 31st, we had just started to feel the impact of Covid-19 in the last two weeks of the period, where both supply of surplus food and demand for it rose quickly.

Since then we have doubled the amount of food we are distributing, with no signs of slowing just yet. It has been shocking and saddening to see the rise in demand since the outbreak, but also inspiring to see so many brilliant projects responding so well to ensure vulnerable people are receiving meals or food parcels to help them through.

One of those projects, who has asked to remain anonymous, said to us:

…a BIG thank you for the deliveries of food.  One of our clients emailed yesterday to say ‘thank you, you have literally saved mine and my son’s life.’  I am just glad that we have been able to help.

This is why we do what we do and why we call on the community to keep on supporting our work. As our Chief Executive Rob Orme says in the report, “the pandemic has made the importance of FareShare Sussex in supporting people in food poverty even more evident.
