This volunteer’s week we’ve been celebrating the hard work of our wonderful volunteer team. Last year we benefitted from over 12,400 hours of volunteer time, who help out with all aspects of the project, from driving the vans delivering food to our member organisations, to writing fundraising bids and helping at events.
Over the year we supported over 80 volunteers, 17 of whom progressed into employment. We provided accredited forklift truck, manual handling, driver assessment and food hygiene courses to help develop confidence and practical skills.
Over the last few weeks some of our team have been sharing their reasons why they give up their time to help FareShare Sussex and here are some of their responses.
“It gives me a routine and time schedule to keep. I meet and mix with other volunteers, I feel good delivering to others less fortunate. There are training opportunities. I have learnt about healthier food and lost weight. All this has helped build my confidence and self-esteem.” Guy, driver
“Hate waste, FareShare works.” Nicola, driver
“Putting something back into the community, with a friendly group.” Ian, Depot Assistant
