Hello, I’m thrilled to be new the Development Manager at FareShare Sussex based at our Brighton warehouse in Moulsecoomb.

I joined just before Covid-19 overtook the world. When we’d bought extra hand sanitiser and were starting to talk about contingencies.  Who could have predicted how things would unfold and how FareShare Sussex would be placed at the heart of supporting thousands of extra vulnerable people in Sussex and Surrey. Since I started we have almost doubled the amount of food we distribute and supported 40 new Covid response community food members, set up and managed by inspiring, kind hearted people in the community. This job has made my heart very glad indeed and I’m very proud to be part of the team.

I have a passion for sustainability, sustainable transport, human rights and food! Previously I was a nutritionist advising people about their health and have worked for a few amazing local social enterprises such as Wired Sussex, Brighton Energy Coop and The Big Lemon.

Long term, my role includes supporting and onboarding new Community Food Members, creating long lasting connections and partnerships and working with our CEO and Operations Manager to keep the food flowing and hungry bellies fed.

I manage a fab team of five and currently oversee two projects:

  • The Interreg 2 Seas FLAVOUR Project, which is a European network of amazing food distribution organisations sharing best practice, investigating ways to prolong the life of surplus foods and training people to be mentors in the surplus food industry.
  • Our DEFRA funded Waste and Resources Action Programme (WRAP) Sustainable Transport Project, where we will be trialing a new e-cargo bike and large electric van to redistribute even more food locally.

I’m a year round sea swimmer with the Salty Seabirds, a keen walker, explorer, daily cyclist and member of Extinction Rebellion.

Best bits so far: Being inspired by our epic volunteers who keep the place going, speaking to so many amazing people during the pandemic, test driving e-cargo bikes on an ex RAF airfield, FareShare volunteer surplus lunches and to be honest Leanne’s chocolate brownies that kept us going in April and May (always thinking about food!).

Favourite foods – A good roast or fresh ceviche with tropical fruit salsas & salads, weather dependent.

Favourite hobby – scuba diving with sharks.
