What a brilliant week we have had expressing our gratitude to the amazing team of volunteers here at FareShare Sussex.
Volunteer Coordinator Josie sums up some of the week’s antics with this heartfelt video.
The most memorable part of the week has definitely been the ‘socially distanced handshake.’ Each volunteer got a special thank you as they collected their certificates and chocolates for dedicating their time and energy getting food out to where it is needed most. The whole team have adapted so well to all of the changes over the past three months when our volumes have doubled at the same time as more stringent health and safety measures have been introduced.
One of those volunteers is Helen, who has adapted her warehouse role to take charge of a thorough cleaning rota since the outbreak.
We have also launched a brand new service week: the support and well-being hub we have named CareShare. Here are some pics from our first day where we have already started matching volunteers with mentors to help with universal credit claims, job-seeking and digital up-skilling. Success all round.
Everyone has a different reason for coming to FareShare, where we all work towards a common goal of tackling hunger and food waste. This week we have been asking our volunteers what motivates them.
We look forward to sharing more stories with you over the coming weeks and and plans are already underway for our next volunteer celebration.

Our volunteer programme is currently paused to new applications but there are lots of other ways to support us, including donating to us throughout our response to Covid-19 and beyond.
