Volunteer’s Week: Rick wins hotel stay thanks to Room to Reward

Room to Reward is a scheme where hotels donate their unsold rooms for charities to pass on to their nominated volunteers. We are always looking for ways to reward our hard-working volunteers, and searching for unique ways to do this, Maddie our Volunteer Coordinator came across this win-win project.

Rick lost his brother to cancer and this led him down a path he wasn’t proud of. After time in prison and reflecting, Rick decided to make a change. Discovering FareShare in 2018 through the job centre, he started volunteering.

“The volunteers and staff were so polite, helpful and passionate about helping those in need. They didn’t see the old me, they saw the person I am today. I hope that my story can show that no matter what happens in life, you can always turn your life around and help other people. Thank you.”

We are thrilled to be able to offer Rick an opportunity to go on holiday.

“I was shocked and surprised to be rewarded in this way; it is really good to get something back for the work that we do. I can’t wait to take my eight and ten year old up to Alton Towers for the weekend.”
